The Inside Scoop: Cracking the Code of Roojai Insurance's Tour of Thailand Strategy!
You've all been buzzing about Roojai Insurance's tactics at the Tour of Thailand, and let me tell you, it was a wild ride! Buckle up for the inside scoop:
We Were Public Enemy No. 1: Everyone knew we had a double threat - Lucas, the sprinting machine, and Adne, the mountain goat. No one wanted to play nice, so guess what? We had to do it all ourselves!
Stage 1 & 2: Pol & Valentin - The Paceline Protectors! These two were our tireless workhorses, controlling the peloton (the main group of riders) like cycling ninjas. Their job? To keep things smooth and fast for Lucas to unleash his killer sprint finish!
Stage 3: Mountain Mayhem - All Aboard! This stage was all about positioning. Pol and Lucas led the charge, strategically keeping the team together as much as possible. Our goal? To have everyone fresh at the foot of the climb, ready to battle for victory!
Size Matters (Sometimes, But Not Always):
The Pressure Cooker: We knew who our biggest competition was: a 12-rider juggernaut formed by Thailand Conti and the National Team. In cycling, a big, coordinated team can be a real threat!
But here's the twist: with great size comes great responsibility (to work, that is!). We planned to turn the tables and put them under pressure from the start. The more they chased us, the more they'd wear themselves out, working for our benefit.
We also had our eyes on Terrenganu, China Glory, and St. Georges. Each of these teams had a single strong rider aiming for the General Classification (GC) win.
On top of all that, we were focused on holding onto the top spot in the Asian ranking. It was a multi-pronged strategy for sure!
Stage 3 Shenanigans: Toom taking the yellow jersey? Not ideal, considering their massive team to defend it. But hey, Stage 4 was brutal! We aimed to thin the herd, and wouldn't you know it, the yellow jersey is back in our hands! Big respect to Toom and Frame for putting up a fight, those guys are tough as nails!
Stage 5 Oops Moment: We weren't sharp enough! Our plan was to pressure Thailand Conti & National, but we let the wrong rider sneak away in a breakaway. Lesson learned!
Stage 6: Redemption Day! We perfected our Stage 5 plan, saving our energy for the crucial moments. 190km is no joke, you gotta be smart!
